Accessibility

Statement last updated

SoqRasi should work for everyone, whatever their device, abilities or assistive technology. If anything gets in your way, write to contact@soqrasi.com and I will fix it, or get you the information another way.

Scope

This statement covers the website soqrasi.com: the home page, the privacy policy, the legal notice, this page and the page-not-found page. It does not cover GitHub or X, which this site links to.

Standard and status

I aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Meeting WCAG 2.2 AA also meets WCAG 2.1 AA, the level that the European standard EN 301 549 and the French RGAA are built on.

Status: self-assessed as conformant to WCAG 2.2 level AA, with the limitations listed below. No other barriers were known when this statement was written. The site has not been audited by an independent third party.

What I have done

  • Every page has meaningful headings, landmarks and lists, with a “Skip to content” link first.
  • Everything works with a keyboard alone, with a clearly visible mint focus outline.
  • The week field is a drawing. Screen readers skip it and get a text description instead, and your result (“weeks still open”) is announced when it appears.
  • The birth-year field has a visible label, tells your browser it expects a birth year so it can fill it in, and explains any mistake in words, which screen readers announce.
  • Text contrast is at least 5:1, and 7.5:1 for most text (measured). Links within text are underlined, so they never rely on colour alone.
  • Content reflows on screens as narrow as 320 pixels and stays usable with text enlarged to 200%.
  • The field breathes slowly. A “Pause motion” button under the field stops all motion on the page, and motion is off from the start if your device asks to reduce it. Nothing flashes.
  • The week marks stay visible in high-contrast (forced colours) modes.
  • There are no time limits, no auto-playing media, no pop-ups and no cookie banner to dismiss.
  • Help is always in the same place: “Write to me” at the top of every page.

Known limitations

  • Reading a single week by pointing at it works with a mouse or touch only. A square’s position is all it shows, and your total is given in text.
  • “Soq Rasi” is a Moroccan Darija idiom written in Latin letters. It is the site’s name, so it is not marked as another language: screen readers read it with the page’s English voice.

Technologies relied on

HTML, CSS, WAI-ARIA and JavaScript. All text is readable without JavaScript. Only the week field and the birth-year tool need it.

How this was checked

The site was checked by its publisher on : a review of the code against each WCAG 2.2 level A and AA success criterion, measurement of every text and focus colour pair, and checks in a web browser at narrow widths, with text enlarged and with reduced motion. I review this statement whenever the site changes significantly.
